Lesmahagow
The House, the Works, and Benhar
Lesmahagow was built in 1914 for Peter McSkimming, the Scottish-born clayworker and industrialist behind the Benhar works. The house took its name from Catherine McSkimming's Lanarkshire home place, and the 1914 date still marks the building.
The story links the McSkimming family, the Benhar works, the formal gardens, later restoration, and today's Fern & Thistle chapter.
